Riverdale High School opened
on the newly renovated Collins View campus in the Fall of 2002. With
the
exception of the four original classrooms, the building is all new
construction.
Designed to accommodate a maximum of 320 students, the school has 2 new
science labs, 2 new computer labs and a beautiful new media center.
Future plans include a Performing Arts Center.
|
The new RHS library is
located in the center of the building. It has a
two-story atrium that fills the center of the school with natural
light.
Students have access to a computer lab in the library as well as
wireless Internet access throughout the school.
Visit the RHS
Library web site.

Riverdale
students enjoy two new computer
labs in addition to computers in classrooms. We have a 3:1 student to
computer ratio.
There are technology courses in computer graphics, programming and
network administration but computers are primarily used as tools in a
well equipped learning environment.
All students have data storage and e-mail accounts that are accessible
from home.

At Riverdale we often
say "less is more." This means that in depth
learning with a narrow focus may be better than trying to learn just a
little bit about too much.
But when it comes to core subjects, "more is more" too. Our students
take four years of Math, Science, History, English and Art.
Riverdale academic requirements (28 credits to graduate) go well beyond
state standards to
prepare
students for college.
|
Our
new building has two complete science
labs. Riverdale's four-year program includes physics, chemistry,
biology
and environmental science.
|
|
At
RHS art is a core subject. Students
select from traditional courses in visual arts as well as offerings in
music, dance, technology and cinema.

It's not unusual to see
Ms. Finnerty, Mr. Palma, Mr. Brown, Ms. Veltman and Mr. Oldani working
one-on-one
with students in class. After four years of Ms. Finnerty's sharp pencil
and encouraging support, our seniors are ready for college. |

Dance, drama
and music are a big part of
Riverdale. The size of our school means that a school play is really a
school play! Everyone gets into the act!

Fall Sports: football,
volleyball, soccer
Winter Sports: basketball, snowboard
Spring Sports: lacrosse, tennis,
track, golf
Most teams have a no-cut policy. If a student wants to practice and
play, we'll find a spot on the team.

|
Some activities, such as
field studies, involve the entire school, while
others such as Mock Trial, Bridge Building, Science Bowl and specific
clubs attract
those with special interests and talents.
|
Students who have a
strong interest in technology have many options at
RHS. Our network is based on state-of-the-art Linux software.
Students have many opportunities for hands-on experiences with
different operating systems and advanced projects.
