A History of Exhibitions at Riverdale High School

Riverdale High School began graduation by exhibition in 1999, during its third year as a school.  The graduating class of 1999 had only four members, and our first exhibitions were tailored to the specific needs, interests and skills of those individuals.  After reading and discussing the article "Performances and Exhibitions: The Demonstration of Mastery" from Horace (the journal of the Coalition of Essential Schools), the 26 seniors of the class of 2000 created the Purpose and Philosophy statement that currently guides our senior exhibition process.  They also designed the elements that make up the Exhibition and Portfolio.  The seniors who make up the graduating classes since then have made slight modifications to the Purpose and Philosophy, while maintaining the key elements of the Exhibition and Portfolio.
