Ways to help your child be successful
in the Senior Exhibition
- Encourage
your child to find a topic that will sustain them through the entire school
year.
- Keep
abreast of current elements that your child is preparing.
Mr. Thompson’s Homework Central
page for Seminar class has assignments and due
dates.
- Understand
the requirements (exhibition
| portfolio)
and criteria for assessment (paper
| presentation). Help your child maintain focus on the final product
while completing pieces that build up to it.
- Encourage
your child to spend approximately three hours per week working on the
exhibition outside of school once individual research has begun.
- Have
conversations about your child’s exhibition topic.
Ask questions – Why? How
do you know this? So what?
- Provide
an environment in which your child can read and write without distraction.
Encourage the use of libraries and other resources.
- Support
the revision process. Read your
child’s work and encourage your child to suggest areas in which your
comments are welcome. Give
feedback that encourages your child to think deeply, write thoroughly and
give support for opinions.
