Assignments

Reading logs:
should reflect your thoughts on the reading you complete each week. These should be thoughtful, demonstrate your best writing, and show evidence from the book to support your statements.

Daily participation:
is based on your contribution to the learning environment.

Reviews:
may be written on CDs or singles, concerts or on specific artists. Reviews or editorials on other music related issues may be written with Mr. Thompson’s approval. These should be thoughtful, demonstrate your best writing, provide evidence to support your opinions, and reflect learning that has taken place in the class.

Presentations:
are assessed using this rubric.

Notebooks:
are checked for organization and thoroughness. Students are responsible for requesting any materials they missed upon their return from an absence.

Other assignments:
will be graded on individual rubrics. In general, students are expected to demonstrate solid effort in their work, and to use evidence to support their statements.

Points
Reading logs 100 points each X 12 weeks = 1200 points
Daily participation 25 points each X 50 classes = 1250 points
Reviews 300 points each X 4 reviews = 1200 points
Presentations 400 points each X 3 presentations = 1200 points
Notebook checks 200 points each X 3 checks = 600 points
Short essays 50-100 points each X ? essays = ? points
Long essays 100-250 points each X ? essays = ? points
Other activities 50-250 points each X ? activities = ? points

Extra Credit

Extra credit is available for:
- Bringing in music to share
- Writing extra reviews
- Making extra presentations (must be okayed with Mr. Thompson)

The limit for extra credit is 300 points per week, except in the case of presentations.
