A country's immigration policy determines which people can and enter and live inside the nation.  In the United States, the bordering nation of Mexico supplies the greatest number of immigrants- both legal and illegal.  For years, politicians have been struggling to control to influx of illegal immigrants entering the country, while still making a policy that fairly benefits those who want to enter the country legally.

I first became interested in immigration when I had a teacher who was rumored to be an illegal immigrant from Cuba.  At that point, I had no idea what it took to become a U.S. citizen, or what the crimes were for being here without the appropriate visa.  Illegal immigrants are often criticized or generallized, but she seemed like an honest, hardworking person.  In the years after that, I became increasingly interested in politics, but I've never had a definite opinion on immigration.  After having many discussions about our immigration policy but not knowing what to think, I decided that I wanted to investigate this topic further. This website explores both the history of immigration in the United States and possible solutions to the problems associated with the current immigration policy.
